There’s an option in Google Maps that forever changed the way we travel on the motorcycle: Avoid Highways. This is not only a great way to find and explore backroads, it’s just good life advice – slow down, look around – because the best distance between two points is never a straight line (unless maybe when you’re flying).
That’s what this blog is about: Avoiding Highways. 
We are excited to be able to share our stories from the backroads: the great adventures, the unusual experiences, and all the surprises; the interesting people we meet; the beautiful places we discover and, most importantly, all the fun and laughter we have along the way. Ride along with us on our travels, and our lessons learned can help you prepare for your next long ride or day trip. And maybe, just maybe, you’ll leave the beaten path and head out on the roads less-traveled, too!
Meet Jeff:
My name is Jeff and I’m the driver/packer/organizer/pillow. Louise & I love to ride and we get out on the bike every opportunity we can. Our current ride is a 2005 Harley-Davidson Softail Deluxe. Together, we have put about 30,000 miles under our wheels since we met in 2008. Over the past decade, we have discovered that our “happy place” is on the motorcycle. I’ve been a pilot since 1995 and my other happy place is in the sky.
Meet Louise:
Hi there! I’m Louise and I’m the planner/navigator/meal planner/ accountant. Jeff and I love to travel and our favorite mode of transportation is our motorcycle. Like Jeff said before, we are extremely busy which makes it even more important to really cherish the time we spend together. One thing we learned a while ago is to never rush a vacation or it isn’t a vacation. That includes getting to your destination! In fact, we’ve found that getting there is the vacation! We can’t wait for you to join us on our travels and we’d love nothing more than to help you plan yours! Don’t forget to subscribe to our site so you get regular updates on our shenanigans. We both have careers that keep us busy (I fly a news helicopter and Louise is a Registered Nurse), we try to take advantage of our time off by living life in the scenic lane. Our vacations usually involve the motorcycle – sometimes with a specific destination, but often with a compass heading and a flip of the coin. When we aren’t able to get out on the bike, we love to take every opportunity we can to avoid highways by flying places in small airplanes & helicopters. We will write about those trips, as well.
